The Song of Hope (O Come, O Come Emmanuel) 4-Day Devotional: Day 4

Day 4: The Cry for Light

Verse:

“O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.”

Scripture: John 1:4-5
“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

Reflection:
Jesus, as the Dayspring, brings light that not only comforts but also exposes. His
light reveals truth, uncovers hidden struggles, and dispels the shadows of
despair and death. Though the light may challenge us, it ultimately brings
healing, joy, and transformation.

The refrain reminds us to rejoice: “Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to
thee, O Israel.” Rejoicing in hope means celebrating that Jesus is our light,
guiding us out of darkness and into His glorious presence.

Prayer:

Lord, You are my Dayspring, my light in darkness. Thank You for shining into my
life, exposing what needs to change and bringing hope and joy. Help me to live in
Your light and rejoice in the hope You provide. Amen.
