3 Day Devotional: In Jesus' Name, Amen - Day 1

Day 1: Pray About Everything

Scripture
“Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.”
James 5:13-14 (NIV)

Devotional Reflection
As James brings his letter to a close, he reminds believers that what we say to God matters. Prayer, in its simplest form, is talking to God. That means every season of life becomes an opportunity for conversation with Him.

James mentions trouble, happiness, and sickness. Together they cover a wide range of human experience. When life hurts, we pray. When life is good, we praise. When we face weakness, need, or suffering, we pray and invite others to pray with us. James teaches us that there is nothing happening in our lives that we cannot bring to God.

Too often we treat prayer like a 911 call, something reserved for emergencies. Yet God invites us into something deeper: an ongoing relationship. Prayer is not only for crises. It is for gratitude, confusion, joy, fear, disappointment, and hope. Sometimes prayer sounds like, “God, I need help.” Sometimes it sounds like, “God, thank You.” Sometimes it is simply, “God, You've been good to me.”

The invitation is beautifully simple: talk to God. If it matters to you, you can talk to God about it. There is no part of your life where God says, “Don't bother Me with that.” Bring Him the big burdens and the small concerns. Bring Him everything.

Reflection Questions
1. What situation in your life are you carrying right now that you need to bring before God?
2. Have you been treating prayer as a last resort rather than a daily conversation with God?
3. What specific concern, joy, or need can you intentionally pray about today?

Prayer
Father, thank You that I can come to You with every part of my life. Help me not to carry my burdens alone or wait until a crisis to seek You. Teach me to bring my joys, fears, questions, and needs before You. Give me confidence that You care about what concerns me and are always ready to hear my prayers. Amen.
