4 Day Devotional: Four Women and a Girl - Day 1

Day 1 – Know Where You Stand

Scripture
Exodus 1:17 (NIV)
“But the midwives feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt
had told them to do; they let the boys live.”

Devotional
In Exodus 1, the Israelites are enslaved in Egypt, and Pharaoh fears their
growing population. To stop them, he commands two Hebrew
midwives—Shiphrah and Puah—to kill every baby boy born to Hebrew
women. As attendants at childbirth, they stood in the space between life
and death. Pharaoh’s order was powerful and dangerous to disobey. Yet
the text says they feared God more than they feared the king. They
quietly refused to cooperate with evil and chose to preserve life.
Scripture remembers their names, even though the Pharaoh goes
unnamed. Their courage reminds us that knowing where you stand
begins with knowing who you ultimately answer to. When pressure
rises, faith calls us to stand for what honors God.

Reflection
 Where are you feeling pressure to compromise?
 What would it look like to fear God more than opinion?

Prayer
Lord, anchor my heart in You. When pressure comes, help me stand for
what is right.
