3 Day Devotional: In Jesus' Name, Amen - Day 2

Day 2: Pray With Faith

Scripture
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
James 5:15-16a (NIV)

Devotional Reflection
James not only teaches us to pray; he teaches us how to pray. He speaks of “the prayer offered in faith.” Faith is not confidence that we know exactly what God is going to do. Faith is confidence that we know who God is.

To pray with faith is to believe that God hears, God cares, God is able, and God is faithful. We do not pray because we have everything figured out. We pray because we trust the One who does. Even when God's answer differs from what we hoped for, faith rests in His character.

James encourages believers to pray for healing because God is able to heal. We should never become so sophisticated that we hesitate to ask God to do what only God can do. Yet James carefully reminds us that “the Lord will raise them up.” The power has never been ours. Faith does not control God. Faith trusts God enough to place everything in His hands.

James also connects prayer to honest relationships. Confessing sin, admitting struggles, and asking for prayer are acts of faith. Sometimes faith sounds like, “I was wrong.” Sometimes it sounds like, “I'm struggling.” Sometimes it sounds like, “Will you pray for me?” God intends His people to support one another through prayer, grace, and truth.

Reflection Questions
What need or burden are you struggling to place fully into God's hands?
Do you trust God's character even when His answers are different from your expectations?
Is there a trusted believer with whom you need to share a struggle and ask for prayer?

Prayer
Lord, thank You that You hear me, care about me, are able to help me, and remain faithful in every circumstance. Strengthen my faith so that I trust Your character more than my understanding. Give me courage to be honest about my struggles and humility to ask others to pray with me. I place my needs in Your hands today. Amen.
