3 Day Devotional: When God Silences You, People of Advent Series - Day 1

DAY 1 — GOD SILENCES YOU TO CALM YOUR FEARS

Scripture — Luke 1:11–13 (NIV)
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.
13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.”

Reflection
Fear can rise even in the holiest places of our lives. Zechariah was serving in the temple, carrying out the highest moment of his priestly calling, and yet fear overtook him when God actually showed up. This teaches us that fear doesn’t wait for trouble—it shows up even in answered-prayer moments. Sometimes God allows silence to quiet the inner noise that keeps fear loud. In the silence, God steadies our hearts and reminds us that His presence is greater than our panic. When God says, “Do not be afraid,” He speaks directly into the places where fear has settled. Silence becomes a space where His peace begins to rise.

Prayer
Lord, calm the fears that speak louder than my faith. Help me hear Your “Do not be afraid” again. Amen.

Application
Take one minute today to sit in silence and breathe this prayer: “God, settle my spirit.”
