3 Day Devotional: Glorifying God - Day 2
Day 2: Glorifying God Involves All of Life
Scripture
"So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life, your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life, and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him."
Romans 12:1 (MSG)
Devotional Reflection
Paul intentionally uses ordinary language. Sleeping. Eating. Going to work. Walking around. These activities may not seem especially spiritual, but they make up most of our lives. Through them, Paul teaches that glorifying God is not limited to moments of worship. It involves every part of everyday life.
Biblically, glory carries the idea of weight and significance. To glorify God is to treat Him as the weightiest reality in our lives. The question is not simply whether we believe in God. The deeper question is: How much weight does God carry when we make decisions, establish priorities, spend money, manage time, or navigate relationships?
It is possible to speak about God, sing about God, and faithfully participate in church while giving God very little influence over the decisions that shape daily life. Paul refuses that kind of division. There is no Sunday life that belongs to God and Monday life that belongs to us.
The ordinary becomes worship when it is placed before God. Acts of patience, forgiveness, generosity, integrity, and faithfulness become offerings that honor Him. Glorifying God is not merely acknowledging that God has done something for us. It is arranging our lives in response to what He has done.
Today, consider what part of your everyday life has not yet been fully placed before God.
Reflection Questions
1. What part of your daily routine consumes the most time and attention?
2. In what area of life is God carrying less weight than other priorities?
3. What is one ordinary activity you can intentionally offer to God today?
Prayer
Lord, I give You my everyday, ordinary life. Take my work, my relationships, my schedule, my resources, and my decisions. Teach me to treat You as the weightiest reality in my life. May even the most ordinary moments become opportunities to honor You and reflect my gratitude for Your grace. Amen.
