3 Day Devotional: Inspiring Hope - Day 3
Day 3: Inspiring Hope Calls Us to Share Our Hope
Scripture
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”
1 Peter 3:15–16 (NIV)
Devotional Reflection
Peter moves from possessing hope and living hope to sharing hope. Believers are called to be prepared to give a reason for the hope they have in Christ. A lived hope creates opportunities for a shared hope. When people see faithfulness in the middle of hardship, they often begin to ask questions.
Those questions may come in many forms. Someone may ask how you are still standing after a difficult season. Someone may wonder why you responded with kindness when you had every reason to strike back. Others may ask how you can still trust God after disappointment or loss. Peter does not tell believers to win arguments or answer every possible question. He tells them to be ready to explain why they have hope.
Our answer ultimately points to Jesus. He suffered to bring us to God. He was raised from the dead. He is Lord. We can be honest about what has been difficult, but we can also testify to the faithfulness of Christ. Peter reminds us to do this with gentleness and respect, reflecting the character of the Savior we proclaim.
We are not responsible for controlling how others respond. God is the one who gives growth and brings people to faith. Our responsibility is to be attentive, ready, and faithful when opportunities come. Inspiring hope calls us to share our hope. Because Jesus is alive and Jesus is Lord, He is worth sharing.
Reflection Questions
1. Who in your life may be searching for hope right now?
2. How prepared are you to explain why you continue to trust Jesus?
3. What opportunity might God be giving you this week to share your hope with gentleness and respect?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the hope You have given me. Help me be attentive to opportunities to share that hope with others. Give me courage to speak about You, wisdom to listen well, and gentleness in every conversation. Use my words and my life to point people to Your saving grace and enduring hope. Amen.
