3 Day Devotional: Glorifying God - Day 1
Day 1: Glorifying God Begins with God
Scripture
"Is there anyone around who can explain God?
Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do?
Anyone who has done him such a huge favor that God has to ask his advice?
Everything comes from him;
Everything happens through him;
Everything ends up in him.
Always glory! Always praise!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life, your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life, and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him."
Romans 11:34-36; 12:1 (MSG)
Devotional Reflection
Glorifying God begins where everything begins: with God. Before Paul calls believers to offer their lives, he pauses in wonder at the wisdom, knowledge, and greatness of God. His response is worship: "Everything comes from him; Everything happens through him; Everything ends up in him." Only after celebrating God's greatness does Paul say, "So here's what I want you to do."
This order matters. The Christian life is never built upon what we do for God but upon what God has done for us. Before we reached toward God, God reached toward us. Before we loved God, God loved us. Before we could offer anything to Him, He offered His Son for us. Because of Christ's saving work, we respond with worship, gratitude, and surrender.
Sometimes we approach God as though we must earn His approval through effort, discipline, or service. Romans reminds us that God's mercy comes first. We do not worship so that God will be merciful. We worship because God has been merciful.
When we recognize that everything comes from God and everything belongs to God, glorifying Him becomes the natural response of a grateful heart. He is the source, the center, and the purpose of our lives. To glorify God is simply to acknowledge His greatness and live in response to His grace.
Reflection Questions
1. Where have you most clearly experienced God's mercy in your life recently?
2. Are you living from God's grace or trying to earn God's approval?
3. How can you express gratitude to God today for what He has already done for you?
Prayer
Father, I praise You because everything comes from You, happens through You, and ends in You. Thank You for Your mercy shown through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for relying on my own efforts instead of resting in Your grace. Help me live each day with gratitude, worship, and trust as I respond to all You have done for me. Amen.
