3 Day Devotional: Healing Lives - Day 1

Scripture
“On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.”
Luke 13:10-11 (NIV)

Devotional Reflection
One of the simplest yet most powerful details in this passage is that “a woman was there.” Luke tells us very little about her, except that she had been bent over for eighteen years and could not straighten up. Yet despite her condition, she showed up.

That detail matters because many of us assume we must get our lives together before drawing near to God. We tell ourselves that when the struggle is over, when the questions are answered, or when the pain subsides, then we will seek Him more intentionally. But this woman teaches a different lesson. She did not wait until she could stand straight. She showed up bent.

Life has a way of bending people. Grief can bend us. Disappointment can bend us. Sin can bend us. Family trouble and financial pressure can leave us bowed down. Sometimes we have carried these things so long that we no longer remember what freedom feels like.

Yet the invitation of God is not to straighten ourselves before we come. It is to come as we are. You can be bent and still show up. You can be burdened and still show up. You can be hurting and still show up. God welcomes those who come honestly into His presence, trusting that He can do what they cannot do for themselves.

2. Are you waiting to get everything straight before bringing your whole life before the Lord?
3. How can you faithfully show up for someone who may be hurting this week?

Prayer
Father, thank You that I do not have to hide my struggles from You. Help me come honestly into Your presence with every burden I carry. Give me faith to trust that You welcome me as I am, and make me willing to show up for others who need encouragement, comfort, and care. Amen.
