3 Day Devotional: When God Silences You, People of Advent Series - Day 2

DAY 2 — GOD SILENCES YOU TO CHALLENGE YOUR NEED FOR CONTROL

Scripture — Luke 1:18–20 (NIV)
18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”
19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.
20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

Reflection
Zechariah wasn’t rebelling—he was reaching for certainty. His question was the question of someone who wanted a handle on what God was doing. Many of us understand that. We pray for God to move, but we want Him to move in ways we can manage or predict. Silence becomes God’s gentle way of loosening our grip. In the silence, we discover that peace doesn’t grow from control. It grows from surrender. When our desire for certainty is louder than our trust, silence becomes the place where God reshapes us. God teaches us that His word is enough, even when we cannot trace the details.

Prayer
Lord, loosen the parts of me that cling to control. Teach me to trust Your word more than my desire for certainty. Amen.

Application
Identify one area you are trying to control. Pray: “God, I release this to You.”
