3 Day Devotional: Glorifying God - Day 3
Day 3: Glorifying God Changes How We Live
Scripture
"Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it."
Romans 12:2 (MSG)
Devotional Reflection
A life placed before God becomes a life transformed by God. Paul warns against becoming so well-adjusted to the surrounding culture that we fit into it without even thinking. Conformity often happens quietly. We gradually adopt the attitudes, priorities, and values around us until little distinguishes our lives from those who do not know Christ.
Paul's answer is simple and powerful: "Fix your attention on God." Whatever consistently holds our attention will eventually shape us. When our attention is fixed on comparison, we become envious. When it is fixed on outrage, we become angry. But when our attention is fixed on God through Scripture, prayer, worship, and obedience, we begin to see everything differently.
God's goal is not merely improved behavior but inward transformation. He changes us from the inside out. Pride becomes humility. Bitterness becomes forgiveness. Selfishness becomes service. Hostility becomes love. A transformed life tells the truth about a transforming God.
We do not have to guess what this looks like because we see it perfectly in Jesus. He glorified the Father through faithful obedience, even to the cross. Because Jesus finished the work of salvation, we do not work to earn God's favor. We live from the salvation He has already accomplished. As His grace transforms us, our lives increasingly reveal His character.
To God be the glory.
Reflection Questions
1. What influences are shaping your attitudes, desires, and priorities right now?
2. Where do you sense God wanting to transform you from the inside out?
3. What specific step can you take this week to fix your attention more fully on God?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for faithfully completing the work of salvation on my behalf. Help me resist being shaped by the culture around me and to fix my attention on You. Transform my mind, heart, and character so that my life reflects Your grace and truth. May my life tell the truth about who You are. To God be the glory. Amen.
