Free Indeed: 3 Day Devotional

Day 1 Recognize Your Bondage

Scripture:
“Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” — John 8:34 (NIV)

Reflection:
It’s easy to confuse functionality with freedom. You can be successful, respected, even
spiritual—and still be bound. Jesus wasn’t speaking to criminals or rebels when He said this; He was speaking to religious people who assumed they were already free.

The deeper truth is that sin isn’t just about behavior—it’s about allegiance. Who or what has
ultimate say in your life? Is it God—or your ego, desires, habits, or past?

Sin makes you think you’re in control, but it subtly takes control. It promises freedom, but it’s a trap in disguise. You can’t fix what you won’t face—freedom starts with honesty.

Question:
What have you given power in your life that’s actually enslaving you?

Prayer:
Lord, shine Your light into the places I’ve kept hidden. Help me recognize where I’m still in
bondage—and give me the courage to confront it with Your truth.
