3 Day Devotional: Inspiring Hope - Day 2

Scripture
“Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. ‘Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.’”
1 Peter 3:13-14 (NIV)

Devotional Reflection
Hope is not merely something we believe; it is something we live. Peter calls believers to remain eager to do good even when doing good has not made life easier. That is often where the struggle begins.

When people misunderstand us, treat us unfairly, or respond to kindness with hostility, the temptation is to give in to fear, bitterness, or retaliation. We wonder why we should continue doing good when it seems costly. Yet Peter reminds us that the behavior of others does not have to determine our character.

Because Jesus is Lord, we do not have to let hardship make us someone we are not. We can continue pursuing compassion, humility, peace, and blessing. We can refuse to return insult for insult. We can keep a clear conscience before God.

This does not mean pretending pain is not real. It means refusing to allow pain to have the final say over how we live. Hope shows up in ordinary moments when we choose faithfulness over revenge, kindness over resentment, and trust over fear.

People are watching. Sometimes we inspire hope without even knowing it. When people see us continue trusting Jesus through circumstances that could have caused us to give up, they are reminded that they can keep going too.

Live as though you have hope. Live as though Jesus is Lord, because He is.

Prayer
Father, help me not to let difficult circumstances shape my character more than Your Spirit does. Give me courage to continue doing good when it is costly. Guard me from fear, bitterness, and retaliation. Help me live with a clear conscience and reflect the hope I have in Christ through my actions each day. Amen.
