3 Day Devotional: Jesus is Lord pt. 1 - Day 2

Day 2 — An Announcement of Authority

Scripture:
Philippians 2:9–11 (NKJV)
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Reflection:
Because Jesus is God, He doesn’t just deserve our worship—He commands it. When Paul says that every knee will bow, he’s declaring the full scope of Jesus’ authority: heaven, earth, and even hell must recognize His reign. “Lord” is not just a church word; it’s a control word. A lord has ownership, power, and the right to command. When Paul called Jesus “Lord,” it was a radical statement—an act of defiance against every competing power, including Caesar himself. In the same way, we all face rival lords—our pride, our possessions, or our need for control. But if Jesus is Lord, then no one and nothing else can be. He doesn’t share His throne or negotiate His crown. His authority is absolute, His power unrivaled, and His reign eternal. Every knee will bow—some in surrender, others in resistance—but all in recognition of who He is.

Reflection Questions:
•What competes for lordship in my life—control, comfort, or approval?
•What would it look like for me to surrender that area to Christ’s authority today?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You reign above all. Teach me to bow willingly, to obey joyfully, and to trust that Your authority brings freedom. Amen.
