3 Day Devotional: What You're Carrying is Helping Somebody - Day 1

DAY 1 — Carrying the Weight of Your Past

Scripture: Luke 1:5–7 (NKJV)
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias… His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

Devotional Reflection
Every one of us carries something from our past — a wound, a disappointment, a story we didn’t choose, or a season we wish had unfolded differently. Elizabeth was righteous, faithful, and obedient, yet she still carried the pain and shame of barrenness. God saw her weight even when others misunderstood it, and God sees yours too. Sometimes the hope others receive from your life comes not just from your breakthrough, but from your endurance — your faithfulness while you’re still waiting. What feels heavy, embarrassing, or unresolved in your past can still become a testimony in God’s hands. Your story isn’t wasted — it is being used to strengthen someone else’s hope.

Reflection Questions
What “weight” from your past still tries to speak into your present?
How has God used a painful part of your story to help someone else?
Where do you need to replace shame with God’s truth today?

Prayer
Lord, You see every burden I carry — especially the ones I don’t say out loud. Help me trust You with the weight of my past, knowing nothing in my story is wasted. Heal what is wounded, redeem what is broken, and use my journey to strengthen someone else’s hope. Amen
